The new Healthcare Strengthening Act (GVSG) has been in force in Germany since 1 March 2025. Paragraph 5c has been added to Section 33 of the German Social Code, Book V (SGB V), which enables faster provision of medical aids without review by health insurance funds or the Medical Service for prescriptions/recommendations for medical aids from the SPZ/MZEB. Unfortunately, it appears that some large and regional health insurance funds are not yet implementing the regulation.
As a neutral network for paediatric rehabilitation, rehaKIND worked with @carmenlechleuthner, who submitted her demands in a petition as an affected mother in 2021, and the Action Alliance for Needs-Based Medical and Medical Aid Provision to develop practical solutions for a change in the law. This is intended in particular to relieve the burden on children and their families and ensure that medical aids arrive where they are needed quickly and without bureaucracy.
As a member and supporter of rehaKIND, we would like to draw attention to this important issue and ask you whether the new law is being applied in your case.
If not, please send an email to info@rehaKIND.com and provide the following information:
- Which health insurance company?
- Which medical aid?
- What was rejected or delayed?
Together, we want to ensure that regular checks by the Medical Service are no longer necessary, procedures are accelerated and resources in administration and among specialists at the SPZ/MZEB are conserved.
